Canada's labor market saw tremendous growth in July 2026. The country added 75,000 new job opportunities, an increase of 0.4 percent. However, the unemployment rate fell to 6.4 percent, making it the lowest in two years. Wholesale and retail trade contributed 21,000 new job opportunities.
However, employment gains were also seen among major provinces. Ontario PNP reported the largest increase, by adding 52,000 jobs, followed by British Columbia PNP with 18,000 new positions. Job growth was seen among people aged 25 to 54, especially women. In Ontario, the scientific, professional and technical service sector contributed immensely to the growth of employment.
This positive momentum has continued, Canada has added 181,000 jobs since April. Employment has also increased by 196,000 as compared to last year. Along with this, since April the private sector employment rate rose by 146,000, while self-employment increased by 73,000.
