Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) released its September 2026 processing time update for temporary residence applications on September 2. The update consists of Super Visas, visitor visas, Canada study permits, work permits, and other temporary residence applications.
However, IRCC stated that processing time is entirely dependent on expected application volumes, application inventories, and available processing capacity. Therefore, wait times can fall or rise as operational requirements change.
The report comes as Canada maintains temporary immigration levels. The country aims to welcome 385,000 new temporary residents by 2026, including 230,000 temporary workers and 155,000 students. The government also intends to keep temporary residents below 5% of the Canadian population by the end of 2027.
NOTE: Foreign nationals living in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, South Sudan and Uganda are temporarily not permitted to travel to Canada.
