Great news! Canada Announces PGP Invitations to Encourage Family Reunions
In an important development for Canadian citizens and permanent residents seeking to reunite with their loved ones, the Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship Program (PGP) was officially opened on 28 July 2025. The lottery for this year, that is, 2025, is open only for those who had submitted an interest-to-sponsor form in 2020 and for those who:
IRCC will continue to send out 17860 invitations in the next two weeks, hoping to approve 10,000 complete PR applications under the PGP.
Upon receipt of an invitation, two applications are to be submitted online:
The above applications have to then be filled out and submitted using Canada's PR Portal. If there is a paid representative helping them, the representative must use the Representative Portal.
If their parents or grandparents are applying, each will have to submit a separate PR application with their portal account.
Special arrangements are available for those who are unable to apply online due to some accessibility reasons.
Both the sponsor and the main applicant (parent or grandparent) must fill out a variety of digital and PDF forms. Some of the key forms include:
For the Sponsor:
For the Principal Applicant:
All forms must be submitted electronically/online mode through the PR portal, and the principal applicant must digitally sign the application.
The joint application fee to sponsor one parent or one grandparent amounts to CAD $1,205, which breaks down as follows:
Additional fees apply for spouses, dependents, biometrics, police certificates, and medical exams.
After the complete application has been submitted:
Always submit your application by the deadline specified in your invitation letter. Any of your applications that are either incomplete or submitted late will be returned and will not be accepted for processing.
As the Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship Program is opened again, this is a ray of hope to families hoping they will be reunited in Canada. The PGP has corporate governing system, transparent requirements, and government goodwill, which makes it one of the more demanded options within the Family Sponsorship Program in Canada.
In case you have been selected, it is high time to apply your theory in practice. Have your papers prepared and money paid and complete all procedures so your beloved ones can get one step nearer to your home.
