Increased Opportunities for Key Sectors

According to provincial representatives, 25% of these new nominations will be allocated to high-demand sectors such as:

  • Trucking
  • Accommodation
  • Food services
  • Retail trade

These industries had already reached their 25% cap by June 2025, which forced the SINP to return applications earlier this year. With the new allocation, processing of applications in these sectors will resume, offering renewed opportunities for candidates in these industries.

Saskatchewan PNP Changes in 2025

The Saskatchewan provincial nomination program has seen significant policy changes this year. In January, the federal government cut the SINP allocation by 50% compared to 2024. Alongside this, a new federal requirement was introduced:

  • 75% of provincial nominees must already be in Canada.
  • The remaining 25% (international candidates) are being prioritized in healthcare, agriculture, and skilled trades.

Some other program changes introduced earlier this year:

  • Closure of the Entrepreneur and Farm Owner/Operator PR pathways;
  • Removal of eligibility for some Open Work Permit holders;
  • Restrictions on the Student Category under SINP and
  • Exclusion of spas, salons, and pet care services (except veterinarians) from eligibility for recruitment through the SINP.

Provinces and territories receiving increased allocations

Saskatchewan is the latest province to announce an increase in nomination quotas.

Other provinces and territories have also negotiated additional nomination spaces in 2025:

  • Newfoundland and Labrador negotiated an increase of 1,000 to its 2025 Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) spots in February. Newfoundland and Labrador’s allocation under the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) is 475 spaces, bringing the total immigration allocation for Newfoundland and Labrador to 2,525.
  • New Brunswick PNP announced an increased allocation in June. The province received an additional 1,500 allocation for its PNP. The province also has 1,250 slots allocated to its portion of the AIP, bringing its total allocation for the year to 4,250.
  • The Yukon PNP also received an additional 67 nomination slots earlier this month.
  • Meanwhile, some provinces—including Ontario and British Columbia PNP - have faced 50% cuts to their allocations, prompting them to close certain streams and cap application intake for the year 2025.

The increased allocation is expected to ease pressures on the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program labor market and reopen opportunities for candidates in high-demand sectors.
