Students planning to pursue post-secondary education in Saskatchewan can now apply for financial assistance, as the provincial government has officially opened applications for the 2026 to 2027 academic year.
With millions in funding allocated to support learners, the initiative aims to reduce financial barriers and make higher education more accessible for thousands of students across the province.
The Government of Saskatchewan has announced that student aid applications are now open for students enrolling in post-secondary programs starting on or after August 1, 2026. More than 24,000 students are expected to benefit from over $119.3 million in financial assistance this year.
However, the announcement is also significant for prospective international students planning to apply for Canada study visa to pursue higher education, as it highlights the province’s continued investment in education and student support.
As part of the 2026 to 2027 provincial budget, the Saskatchewan Student Aid Fund has increased by approximately $5 million, while $51.3 million has been allocated as direct financial support for students. This funding expansion is expected to improve affordability and ease the financial burden of higher education.
Eligible full-time students may receive up to $13,900 in loans and $5,200 in non-repayable grants for every eight months of study. Students with dependents may qualify for additional grant support, while eligible Grade 12 graduates can receive the Saskatchewan Advantage Scholarship, which offers up to $3,000.
To qualify for Saskatchewan Student Aid, applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:
In most cases, students must have lived in Saskatchewan for at least 12 consecutive months before their study period begins, excluding time spent as a full-time post-secondary student.
Additional grants may also be available for:
