Saskatchewan Uses Over Half of Its 2026 Immigration Quota

Saskatchewan has announced that more than half of its 2026 provincial immigration quota has already been used, signalling increased competition for prospective immigrants.

With nomination spaces being filled faster than expected, applicants under the Saskatchewan Immigrants Nominee Program (SINP) may face fewer opportunities in the coming months.

This development highlights the growing demand for skilled workers and the importance of applying early. For candidates planning to immigrate to Saskatchewan, staying up to date on quota availability and program changes is more important than ever to improve their chances of securing a nomination.

What is the 2026 Nomination Allocation of Saskatchewan?

The Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) has been allocated 4,761 nomination spaces for 2026. Unlike in 2025, there are no federal requirements mandating that a specific share of nominations must be reserved for temporary residents.

However, the province may receive the additional nomination spaces later in the year, subject to the discretion of the province and IRCC. This means Saskatchewan’s allocation could increase depending on future federal decisions and the labour market needs.

SINP 2026 Nomination Allocation by Sector

For 2026, the SINP has distributed its nomination spaces across the following three sector categories:

SectorNo. of allotted spotsNominations issuedRemaining spots
Priority sectors 2,3811,466915
Capped sectors 1,190718472
Other sectors 1,190444746

How will Saskatchewan allocate 2026 Immigration Spaces?

The 4,761 nominations will be distributed as follows:

Priority Sectors Get the Largest Share: At least 50% of nominations (2,381 spaces) are reserved for priority sectors, including healthcare, agriculture, skilled trades, mining, manufacturing, energy, and technology.

Reserved Spaces for Saskatchewan Graduates: Within this allocation, 750 spaces are set aside for Saskatchewan post-secondary graduates working in priority sectors.

Limited Allocation for Capped Sectors: Up to 25% of nominations (1,190 spaces) will go to capped sectors: accommodation and food services (714), trucking (238), and retail trade (238).

Flexible Allocation Based on Demand: If demand in priority sectors rises, they may receive more spaces. A mid-year review will determine whether allocations need adjustment.

Priority Sector Demand Could Reshape Allocation

The SINP will prioritize the following sectors, which align with the Saskatchewan Labour Market Strategy:

  • Healthcare
  • Agriculture
  • Skilled Trades
  • Energy
  • Mining (including critical minerals)
  • Manufacturing
  • Technology

Saskatchewan has also indicated that sector allocations may remain flexible throughout the year. If demand in priority sectors listed under the Saskatchewan occupation in demand list exceeds expectations, nominations for these sectors may rise above the minimum 50% allocation, reducing the number of spaces available for other sectors.

However, if the province fails to meet the 50% priority-sector target, additional nomination spaces may be redirected to other sectors. The SINP plans to conduct a mid-year review to assess nomination trends and make adjustments based on evolving workforce needs.
