COVID-19 pandemic led to the increase in demand for certain Manitoba vocations
According to a research led by the Canadian government, several vocations have grown in demand in Manitoba as a result of the epidemic. To be sure, many jobs were lost as a result of Manitoba's public health initiatives. A lot of individuals lost their job in the tourist and hospitality industries, as a result of pandemic-related shutdowns. Other industries, on the other hand, also saw a rise in demand. The nine jobs listed below have seen a specific rise in demand. The jobs are categorized according to their National Occupational Classification (NOC) code.
1) NOC 1521 - Shippers and receivers
These individuals transport, receive and track the movement of components, supplies, materials, and other things within the corporate sector. When compared to April 2019, employment for these jobs has increased by 27 percent in April 2020. These individuals have been in more demand as retail e-commerce has grown during the COVID-19 epidemic.
2) NOC 2281 - Computer network technicians
Computer network technicians set up, run and maintain local and wide area networks (LANs and WANs), as well as hardware, software, and other computer equipment. Many of these people work in information technology departments. When compared to April 2019, employment for these jobs have increased by 75 percent in April 2020. This position is anticipated to remain in high demand as more organizations adopt remote work.
3) NOC 4412 - Home support workers, housekeepers and related occupations
Personal care is provided by home support workers to elders, persons with disabilities, and other customers. These employees may live with the client. Housekeepers are in charge of housekeeping and home management responsibilities in a private residence. When compared to April 2019, employment in these occupations have increased by nearly 87 percent in April 2020. Demand for these jobs may continue to rise as elderly individuals and other immunocompromised people choose to remain at home rather than being shifted to a caregiving facility where they may become infected with the COVID-19 virus.
4) NOC 5241 - Graphic designers and illustrators
Graphic designers and illustrators create graphic art and visual elements to express information for packaging, publishing, advertising, films, and other media. Graphic designers and illustrators were 114% more in demand in April 2020 than in April 2019. Although advertising was cut as shops lowered their ad spending and live events were cancelled, graphic designers and illustrators saw their job transfer to internet shopping platforms as more businesses moved online.
5) NOC 6231 - Insurance agents and brokers
Insurance agents and brokers provide a variety of insurance products, including life, car, property, and health insurance. Insurance firms may see a rise in claims as a result of the pandemic's uncertainty for travel and business. This rise in insurance claims is anticipated to drive up demand for this position.
6) NOC 6315 - Cleaning supervisors
Cleaning supervisors primarily manage the team of specialist cleaners, janitors, caretakers, superintendents and so on. Many work in hospitals, health care facilities, hotels, schools, and other businesses. Cleaning supervisor employment increased by 68% in April 2020 compared to April 2019. Enhanced cleaning methods became a priority during the COVID-19 epidemic, thus the huge increase may not be surprising.
7) NOC 6622 – Clerks, Store shelf stockers, and order fillers
These workers pack clients' purchases, price things, stock shelves, and fulfil mail and phone orders. Many work in retail establishments such as grocery stores, department stores, and warehouses. Average employment levels for this job have increased year over year. During the epidemic, consumer buying patterns changed online. This increased the need for this employment, and many grocery stores recruited more shelf stockers and order fillers as a result.
8) NOC 7452 - Material handlers
Material handlers primarily transport, load, and unload items. Typically, these experts work for transportation, storage, and moving businesses. In 2020, average employment levels for this occupation increased year over year. The pandemic expanded retail e-commerce, and as a result, demand for this employment grew as parcel delivery increased. Furthermore, Amazon plans to construct a new delivery centre in Winnipeg in 2021, which would even further raise the demand for this job category.
9) NOC 7514 - Courier service drivers
These experts pick up and deliver items in automobiles, vans, and light vehicles. They are typically hired by pharmacies, newspaper distributors, restaurants, dry cleaners, and a variety of other companies. Many of them are also self-employed. In 2020, average employment levels increased year over year. Because of the enormous rise in retail e-commerce, this occupation has seen a surge in demand.
Immigrants are drawn to Canada's provinces and territories to fill labour market gaps. This is to help Canada's economy grow. If you have work experience in an in-demand job in a certain province, you have many options for obtaining permanent residency. Furthermore, you can utilize your specialized job experience to apply for permanent residency through an economic class immigration program.
Get a Free Express Entry Assessment
The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) are all part of this. Canada manages applications for these programs using the Express Entry system. However, it is crucial to note that Express Entry is only available for specialized jobs.
Examine the National Occupational Classification (NOC) code for your occupation. If your NOC code is skill type 0, level A or level B, your employment is skilled. Occupations such as graphic designers and illustrators, cleaning supervisors, computer network technicians, Insurance agents and brokers, are considered as skilled occupations from the list mentioned above.
Manitoba also has its own Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). Temporary employees and international students, having an Express Entry profile will assist you in immigrating to Manitoba via the Manitoba Express Entry Pathway. This route is part of the Skilled Worker Overseas Stream. To be qualified, you must have prior experience in a high-demand occupation. Only graphic designers and illustrators, as well as computer network technicians, are on the list of in-demand jobs. Finally, under the Home Support Worker Pilot scheme, home care employees may be able to come to Manitoba.
