Canada Invites French Speaking Candidates Through Latest Express Entry Draw

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued 5,000 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) in the latest Express Entry draw held on August 6, 2026. This Express Entry draws targeted candidates with French-language proficiency, with a minimum (CRS) score of 391 required to receive an invitation.

This was the lowest CRS cutoff recorded in a French-language draw since March 2025. The August 6 draw was also marked as the 45th Express Entry selection round held this year.

However, the latest Express Entry draw highlights IRCC’s continued commitment to strengthening Canada’s French-speaking population outside Quebec.

How to Qualify for French-Language Express Entry Draws?

In order to become eligible for a French-language Express Entry draw. You must first be eligible under one of the three Express Entry programs, the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), Canadian Experience Class (CEC), or Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP). Additionally, you need to have an active Express Entry profile.

The key requirement is showing French-language proficiency by achieving at least NCLC 7 (equivalent to CLB 7) in all four language abilities: speaking, listening, reading, and writing on an authorized French language test, such as TEF Canada or TCF Canada.

It is not sufficient to only speak French, valid test results must be submitted with your Express Entry profile.

Applicants who fulfill these eligibility criteria are automatically considered for French-language category-based draws.

If their CRS score meets or exceeds the cutoff for a particular draw, they may receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residence.
