About French Language Proficiency

French language proficiency is an important factor in Canada immigration system, especially for candidates applying through the Express Entry program. The Government of Canada encourages Francophone immigration to strengthen bilingualism and support communities where French is spoken outside Quebec.

Applicants who can demonstrate strong French language skills can earn additional Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points, thereby significantly improving their chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residency (PR).

Proficiency is usually measured through recognized language tests, such as:

  • TEF Canada (Test d’évaluation de français)
  • TCF Canada (Test de connaissance du français)

By rewarding French-speaking candidates, Canada aims to attract skilled immigrants who can contribute to its economy while promoting the growth of Francophone communities across the country.
