Prince Edward Island provincial government has released the details of the latest PEI PNP provincial draw held on June 17.
A total of 113 immigrants were invited to apply for provincial nomination. Out of which, 101 invitations were given to express entry candidates and the remaining 12 invitations were given to Business Impact candidates who had the minimum score of 60 points.
This is the sixth draw of the year organized by the Canadian Maritime Province. Prince Edward Island invited 905 applicants, including 816 from the Work Impact and Express Entry streams and 89 from the Business Impact stream.
PNPs allow provinces and territories in Canada to select immigrant applicants who meet their labor market needs. This is the case with Prince Edward Island, which administers the Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) under guidelines approved by the federal government.
Immigration to Prince Edward Island has declined in recent times, majorly because of the travel restrictions. However, the federal government plans to close the deficit and achieve an ambitious immigration target in 2021. Under the PNP, Canada's goal is to admit 80,800 new immigrants this year.
Get a Free Express Entry Assessment
Express Entry candidates with a provincial nomination get a major boost of 600 points to their overall CRS score. These many points effectively guarantee an Invitation to Apply (ITA) in the next round of invitations.
To be considered for a PEI Provincial nomination, Express Entry applicants must create an EOI profile with the PEI PNP.
All the EOI profiles are assigned scores based on the province's point assessment grid. The highest-rated applicants are then invited to apply via monthly draws.
Basics on Labour Impact and Business Impact category
PEI PNP's Labour impact category is for skilled immigrants who have a valid job offer from an eligible employer of the province. There are three immigration streams under this category: Critical Worker, Skilled Worker, and International Graduate.
Candidates under this category are also required to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to be eligible for provincial nomination.
Applicants in the Business Impact category must meet the minimum provincial score requirement to proceed with their applications. The score is different for each draw. The invitations that Prince Edward Island sent out for today's draw were issued under the Work Permit Stream, aimed at foreign entrepreneurs who wish to own and operate a business on the island.
