NLPNP and AIP: An Overview

Newfoundland and Labrador operates two key immigration pathways to bring newcomers in:

  • Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominees Program: The program allows the province to nominate skilled workers, international graduates, and entrepreneurs for permanent residency. Selected candidates are those who could play an important role in contributing to the economy and society of the province.
  • Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP): An arrangement between the Federal Government and the Atlantic Provinces, Newfoundland and Labrador, to help in hiring skilled workers and international graduates to address the labor shortage in Atlantic Canada.

Enhanced Expression of Interest (EOI)system

Newfoundland and Labrador launched this enhanced Expression of Interest (EOI) System for all economic immigration streams on February 19, 2025. Here are its salient features:

  • All applicants must create and submit an EOI through the province's immigration accelerator platform.
  • Candidates applying from outside Canada must present an employer-issued invite code from a recognized employer in Newfoundland and Labrador.
  • Those applicants already in Canada with a valid temporary status are exempt from requiring an invite code.
  • An EOI is valid for twelve months from the date of submission.
  • Shortlisted candidates must submit a full application within sixty days.
  • An ITA does not equate to application approval; candidates must still meet all eligibility criteria.

Why This Draw Matters

Newfoundland and Labrador's latest draw shows the province's strategic immigration planning in practice. By prioritizing candidates with job offers and ties to rural areas, the province is ensuring that skilled newcomers not only fill immediate labor shortages but also become long-term residents.

With 231 invitations extended, the smooth operation of the Newfoundland and Labrador government applying both the Newfoundland and Labrador PNP and the Atlantic Immigration Program continues to lure skilled newcomers into addressing pressing labor shortages and resettling in the province.
