However, this milestone follows an expanded allocation granted earlier in 2025 and reflects Alberta’s continued efforts to support labour market needs through multiple streams and selection categories.

In 2025, Alberta’s AAIP began the year with 4,875 nomination slots and later received an additional 1,728 nominations, bringing the total to 6,603. Interestingly, the province issued 6,750 nominations, slightly exceeding the allocation, due to a small Express Entry administrative coverage from the federal government.

• Alberta Opportunity Stream: 12 draws
• Rural Renewal Stream: 2 draws
• Dedicated Health Care Pathway (Express Entry): 11 draws
• Dedicated Health Care Pathway (Non-Express Entry): 11 draws
• Tourism and Hospitality Stream: 3 draws
• Alberta Express Entry Stream: 38 draws

Priority sectors under the Express Entry Stream included construction, agriculture, and aviation, with specialized pathways like the Dedicated Healthcare Pathway, Accelerated Tech Pathway, and Law Enforcement Pathway.

Key Changes to the AAIP in 2025

Throughout the year, Alberta introduced several important changes to its PNP:

• Feb 27: Applicants must now respond to AAIP information requests via the “Update Employment Information” tab in the portal, rather than by email.
• Mar 17: Alberta withdrew from the federal temporary public policy for open work permits for prospective PNP candidates.
• Mar 17: The Family Connection and Alberta Occupation in Demand list pathway under the Express Entry Stream was removed from invitations, though points for family connections remain.

• Apr 1: Application fees increased across various streams:
  • Worker Streams: from $840 → $1,500
  • Farm Stream: from $500 → $3,500
  • Nomination certificate reissuance: $100 → $150
